Lady Mary Douglas was born in 1737, the daughter of James Douglas, 14th Earl of Morton. Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia, was named after Lord Morton by Captain Cook (the spelling being an error in the published account of Cook’s voyage)
Lady Mary married Charles, 4th Earl of Aboyne in London on 14 May, 1774. Their only child, Douglas Gordon (1777–1841), succeeded to his father’s titles in 1794.
She died in Edinburgh 25 December, 1816.
